Invention Novelty:
Hopkins Policies Online (HPO) is a feature-rich, easy-to-use, and cost-efficient WYSIWYG document creation site which supports policy creation, collaboration, publication, automatic archival, content searching, viewing, and workflow integration for policies and procedures.
Value Proposition:
This web application contains two portals: an Administrative and the Policy & Procedure. The former allows credentialed user to create, update, track, approve, publish, and archive policies and procedures, while the latter provides features for searching, grouping, and viewing. Moreover, this application contains 11 features. Special features and other key advantages include:
· Downtime machine synchronization feature transfers new and updated documents to the various PCs designated as downtime machines
· Downtime machines allow access to the policies in event of a network outage that affects access to the HPO servers
· Auto indexing features utilizes enterprise services for Single Sign-On and google GSA for document indexing
· HPO is cost-efficient, comparing to similar products in the document management marketplace
Technical Details:
Johns Hopkins researchers developed a WYSIWYG document creation site which is comprised of four technology layers. The policy creation interface layer supports template generating, text editing, and document revision tracking. The end user interface layer offers different levels of protections to the documents in the system. The third layer is HTML-based text editor that allows user to create and edit documents. The last layer is to transform XML data into PDF format.
